Setmurthy Inverted I

Price range: £10.00 through £495.00

Description

Photographed at Setmurthy in the northwest Lakes, Cumbria, August 2026

Nature, form and architecture arts photography by Adrian Flower.

‘My photographic life started within the confines of a small darkroom, lit red,  and I fast got used to the never knowing of the days results. This was the excitement of the darkroom process.

Digital photography, which I have fully embraced, doesn’t really offer you the same unknown. It is very black and white as processes go! It misses the magic of the unknown, so, therefore, I like flirting with the unknown. I use sheets of handed treated glass in front of camera to offer an alternate view of the everyday. It refines a focal point and throws everything that surrounds the subject matter into a quiet.

It could be argued that there is an isolation in my fields of view. After spending many years photographing people as a community photographer, I find great solace in quietening things down. We are amongst millions and millions and to allow a subject matter to breathe against all odds, brings a calmness to my process.

I enjoy playing with contracts and colour spectrums in post production. I am recreating a darkroom but on digital terms. I love seeing my work almost as negative film. It brings great life to proceedings and I constantly see faces in my inverted photography. My people! They speak to me, leaving no place left to hide.’
