About

Katy Binks brings along a world full of colour and abstract art. Indulge in her artwork, find out more about her background and the creative process behind her unique pieces.

How would you describe your art?

Abstract. Colourful. Sometimes too much. It’s a subjective thing. Some people say you should take some out. I say add more, add more.

Your art involves a lot of shapes and colours. Inspiration?

I’m interested in depicting space when it comes to print. I like depicting space with objects on the paper. There’s stuff going off the frame. I think about murals and space and what goes off of it. I’m interested in how the shapes interact with the paper and in murals and shapes interact with space.

Would you say you work on the imperfections?

With print, I love the imperfections. You spend so much time printing perfectly that you don’t create anything new. I don’t just want to be a technically good screen-printer. It’s not the driving force behind them. You don’t want them to be perfect. You want to know it was made by someone.

Who are your main influences?

Mostly women. Helen Frankenthaler for prints and Katharina Grosse for installations and how she treats space. I like the space between graphics and arts and aesthetics.
