About

Amy Gardner is an artist to watch out for with colourful, uplifting prints that have powerful messages behind every single piece. Find out what her creative process is, her influences and her art background.

Describe your artwork in a few words

Bright. Movement. Women.

I am driven to empower women. I am driven to create uplifting images for women because of my two young girls. We very much look at the images that we’re given through the media and advertising. Looking at being the unrealistic perfect woman. It’s the messaging of groups of women supporting each other as opposed to what people think we do, being against each other. There’s nothing more powerful than a group of women supporting other women.

Your art involves a lot of colour, especially pinks and reds, are you drawn to this colour? Why?

For me, colour is such an intuitive thing. There’s a lot of things I could do to delve into the academic stuff behind colour which is amazing but I don’t want to overthink the colour or over intellectualise. I just don’t think about the colour I chose. I love pink though. It’s my favourite colour. It’s got good energy. It’s about self-love.

What’s next for your art?

I’m just coming out of a busy time period. A bunch of editions looking at body image and have some amazing images to use for that. More flow work coming out as well as a solo show and some big submissions. Some exciting stuff coming up.
